A ROOM

A Room is an installation designed by Sopheap Pich for temporary exhibit in the entry atrium of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The installation combines lengths of color cast urethane and aluminum cast bamboo strand with bamboo produced by Pich Studio, and is arranged to carve out a circular space within the atrium. The artist was inspired by the sensation of standing in a bamboo forest in Cambodia, and wished to convey a similar experience within the art museum, using the atrium's plentiful natural light in tandem with his signature materials. Pich is known for his use of bamboo, rattan, and wire in complex and often monumentally sized sculpture and installation.
